Biography

Degree in Physics from the University of Salamanca (1986) and Ph.D. in Physics from the Complutense University of Madrid (1990). She is attached to the Department of Architecture and Technology of Computer Systems of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and has been teaching for more than 30 years under the following modalities: (i) Assistant Professor (1990-1993), (ii) Associated Professor (1993-2019) and (iii) Full Professor (since October 2019). 

Her research activity is carried out at the Biomedical Technology Center of the UPM. Her main lines of research are focused on medical and earth observation image processing and remote sensing. As outstanding merits in the research field, she has 4 positive evaluations by the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (sexenios of research) and 1 of Technology Transfer. She has been principal investigator of five projects of the National Plan and three European projects (accumulated time as PI: more than 15 years). She has also participated as a researcher in 58 other competitive projects: 7 international (non-European), 15 European, 17 National, 2 Regional, 10 UPM-funded, 8 corporate contracts (Art. 83), and 6 from other calls.

She has participated in the registration of an industrial property title: Method for Inspecting the Volume of a Composite Component, Apparatus for Inspecting the Composite Component, and a Computer Program (P202330360, Spain, Community of Madrid) Date of Grant: 07/11/2023. And in Software registration: Plataforma Integral de Bajo Coste para la Monitorización y Ayuda de Pacientesde Enfermedades Neurodegenerativas (NDMONITOR-RTC-2016-4922-1).

 

Regarding scientific production, she has published 55 articles in JCR indexed journals (27 Q1, 20 Q2, 5 Q3, and 3 Q4), 28 articles indexed in Scopus and SJR, 5 book chapters, and more than 50 publications in international and national congresses. Her h-index is 25 and her i10 is 66 with a total of 2332 citations (last access 04/12/2025).

Throught her academyc career she has get the next awwards: (i) Recognized as a Distinguished Visitor by the University of Concepción, Chile (2015); (ii) Member of the a finalist team in the XII Business Creation Competition (ActaUPM, 2015); and Expo-Optica award to the best thesis in the optical area (Comunidad de Madrid 1990).

In addition, she has supervised 10 doctoral theses. Member of the Spanish Association of Remote Sensing since 1996 and Secretary of this association (2005-2011). Currently, she is  Associate Editor of the Revista Nacional de Teledetección.

    Durante mi estancia en el CSIC, desarrolle mi trabajo de Tesis Doctoral en el área del procesado Óptico y Digital de Imágenes. En ella, desarrolle un procesador híbrido óptico-digital para filtrar imágenes de forma espacialmente variante, mediante la aplicación de diferentes filtros a la Transformada de Wigner de las imágenes que se querían filtrar.

    Reliable digital information and communication infrastructures are important for healthcare providers. In this context, the EU-funded CUREX project will make it possible for healthcare providers to assess the realistic cybersecurity and privacy risks they are exposed to and suggest mathematically optimal strategies for addressing these risks with safeguards tailored specifically for each business case and application. Specifically, CUREX is setting up a decentralised architecture enhanced with a private blockchain infrastructure that ensures the integrity of the risk assessment process and of all data transactions that occur between the diverse range of stakeholders involved. The results of this project will boost data security in various situations, from remote healthcare and patient cross-border mobility to data exchanges for research.
